“I’m For Gay Marriage Because I’m For Marriage”
A really smart conservative told me that once.
And, while decent people can go back and forth about the use of the word “marriage”, I don’t believe that decent people can go back and forth over whether committed homosexual couples should enjoy the same legal rights as committed straight couples.
Committed homosexual couples should enjoy the same legal rights as committed straight couples.
In America, “equal protection under the law” has always meant just that.
Even if occasionally it takes time for the courts and legislatures to catch-up to the Constitution.
And I don’t know very many people under the age of 40, in red states or blue states or purple states, who don’t share the exact same point of view.
Which is why when I hear Ken Blackwell, a man who is considered a front runner to lead the Republican Party into the 21st century say, “Homosexuality is a compulsion that can be contained, repressed or changed.” I wonder what in the hell the GOP is thinking.
And it ain’t the first time.
