Am I A “Squishy Republican”?
Am I a “squishy Republican” if I believe that the #2 national security threat to this country – second only to a terrorist getting his hands on a nuclear bomb – is the $56 trillion dollars in unfunded liabilities currently on our Federal government’s books? And I support “paying more for less” to balance our books so that unborn generations don’t eat the bill we are all currently ringing up?
Am I a “squishy Republican” if I believe in universal health care coverage for every American? And that I believe in this not only because I believe that it’s the right thing to do, but I also believe that by doing it we can start addressing chronic disease and end of life care with the end result being that we actually end up bending the cost curve down?
Am I a “squishy Republican” if I believe that in the interest of national security and our environment that this country (and the world) can’t break its addiction to fossil fuels quickly enough? And I support a several trillion dollar Apollo type public/private program to make this happen?
Am I a “squishy Republican” if I want our military to be the best trained, best equipped military in the entire world but I also believe that America should never torture anyone, under any circumstances?
Am I a “squishy Republican” if I don’t want to re-fight the culture wars of the 1970s, 80s and 90s? That I believe everyone, including committed homosexual couples, should enjoy equal protection under the law? And I generally believe that whatever you do in the privacy of your own home with other consenting adults is between you and your God?
Am I a “squishy Republican” if I think Nancy Pelosi is full of shit? But I believe John Boehner is full of shit too?
Am I a “squishy Republican” if I believe that the campaign industrial complex and its 24/7 money chase has helped drive this country right off a cliff? And I support people at least exploring ways to proceed with some sort of new campaign finance reform?
Am I a “squishy Republican” if I believe that Wall Street and Main Street require sophisticated and robust regulatory oversight for the good of our interconnected global marketplace?
Am I a “squishy Republican” if I don’t care about Ronald Reagan because I was only 10 years old when Reagan left office over 20 years ago and I believe the world has moved on 10,000 times since then?
Am I a “squishy Republican” if I believe that in 2009 the world is moving so fast and is so complicated that I am willing to listen to anyone – straight, gay, white, black, man, woman, Christian, Muslim, Republican, Democrat or whatever – who is willing to stand up in the public square and say, “Maybe we should try this…”?
Am I a “squishy Republican” if I wholeheartedly support the mission of Common Cause, Doctors Without Borders, One, The Peterson Foundation, The Pickens Foundation, The Sunlight Foundation, The Concord Coalition, The Humane Society and The Singularity University?
So, am I a “squishy Republican”?
Or am I a good Republican?
Because I think that believing the above makes me a good Republican. And I am proud of that.
And the Party crazies and the bankrupt Republican leadership in DC can go jump in a lake.

One of the best posts you have ever put up. You are back in fighting form. Looks like your work from the NH Primary. Well done.
Well said. Very well said.
If moderates (or squishes) as you call them are going to make a stand there is no better place for them to make that stand than in New Hampshire or a similar type grassroots state.
